HOW TO REACH ALIMOS BASE

Athens International Airport “EL. VENIZELOS” is situated in Spata area and is approximately 41km NE from Kalamaki (Alimos Marina). Getting there is quite easy. You can either take a public bus or a taxi. You will find both as soon as you exit the main airport areas. The public bus runs on a 24hr basis every 20-25 minutes and the ticket costs about 3.5 Euro (price for 2009). You have to take bus number X96 which it is heading to Piraeus port. Your stop is called EDEM, (ask your bus driver for help).
The taxi is certainly the most convenient solution and costs approximately 40-45 Euro.
We can pre-arrange your pick-up with a taxi or a minibus at a small cost.

FACILITIES

Water and electricity 220V is available on the pier. Fuel is delivered at the pier by a fuel wagon.Hot water showers and toilets at 80m distance from the yachts or less.Within the marina you can find snack-bar/café, card-telephones, toilets and showers. There are also a variety of restaurants, including Greek and Italian cuisine, fast-food, on and around Poseidonos Avenue. Ask SIROCCO SAILING staff about location of various Greek Taverns, places where you can enjoy typical Greek Souvlaki, Greek salad, Pizzas, etc. You even can order food (Souvlaki, Pizzas etc.) by telephone and in about 15-25 min. the things you have ordered will be brought to your yacht. Within a 350 meters distance are located many banks.
There is also an unguarded car parking area available. But we suggest you park your car in front of the port police on the marina or even better – at a small street outside the marina.A night-club is built within the marina area, and loud music can be annoying on Friday nights

PROVISIONING

Although there is no supermarket within the marina, there are a couple of them nearby, providing a free of charge delivery service (groceries, water, ice cubes etc.) to the yacht (most time with a big delay). Ice-cubes could also be bought from the fuel station at the entrance of the marina. On Saturdays these supermarkets close at 16.00h and on Sunday they are closed. There is an all day & night “service” which is a tough competitor of the normal supermarket. He or one of his guys will pick you up with a car, take you to a smaller grocery store nearby and lift you back with all your shopping, directly to your yacht. They say its free of charge, but believe us, in reality they charge about 5-10% more than a big supermarket. So, we suggest you send us a provisioning list before you arrive and we will take care that everything will be brought directly to your boat. Don’t forget to get ice so that you save your yacht’s power at night!

HAZARDS

The reef of Agios Cosmas, SE of the entrance of Alimos Marina, is difficult to spot at night although there is a light on it. Stay clear of the MERMINGIA rocks, 4,5 miles SE of Alimos Marina in the direction of Cape Sounio.

THE WEATHER

The Saronic Gulf and Eastern Peloponese is generally a protected sailing area, with winds seldom exceeding Force 2-3B out of NW to N. The weather is sunny and warm with very little rain, but some during spring and autumn.
